How we look after your information
Last updated October 2026
Who we are
The Wakirike Association of Great Britain and Ireland (“the Association”) is a community association for Wakirike (Okrika) people and their families in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. For questions about this notice, email info@wakirikeuk.org.
What we collect and why
- Contact form: your name, email, optional phone number, the reason for your message and what you write, so the right officer can reply.
- Member registration: your contact details, address, Wakirike connection, family members you list, subscription choice and next of kin, to keep the membership register, run meetings and provide member welfare.
- Member eCard: your photo and the profile details on the card, to produce your eCard and, if you agree, share it with members.
- Meeting feedback: your answers, and your name and email only if you choose to give them, to improve our meetings.
Our lawful bases are the Association’s legitimate interests in running a members’ association, and your consent where we ask for it (for example sharing your eCard or sending news). You can withdraw consent at any time.
Where it is kept
Form answers are sent securely through our website (hosted by Cloudflare) to a private Google Sheet and Google Drive folder controlled by the Association. Only the officers who need the information can open it. The website does not store your answers and does not use advertising cookies. If enabled, Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without cookies.
How long we keep it
- Contact messages: up to 12 months after we reply.
- Membership records: while you are a member and up to 6 years afterwards for our accounts.
- eCards: until you ask us to remove them or you leave the Association.
- Feedback: deleted once the review is complete.
Photos at events
We share photos from our gatherings in the website gallery. We ask permission before publishing photos, and a parent or guardian’s consent for anyone under 18. If you would like a photo removed, tell us and we will act promptly.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email info@wakirikeuk.org. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (UK) or the Data Protection Commission (Ireland).
